What a joy it is to introduce you to our church!

We are formally known as Hmong Community United Methodist Church located on the Westside of St.Paul.  In 2012 we moved to Wheelock Parkway, St. Paul to witness the love of God to this community. We changed our name to reflect the cultural diversity in this community. We want to be a church of open hearts, open minds, and open doors to welcome all children
of God.  At Wheelock, you will discover that our passion is to provide a place where people just like you can have a life-changing experience with God.

We firmly believed that the ministry we represent is not about us, it is in fact all about the God’s Kingdom.
Our desire is to expand the Kingdom of God anywhere and everywhere. Jesus said in Luke 4:18, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." We provide the greatest avenue for encouragement and strength, as well as providing for much needed direction and guidance in these challenging days we live. Our doors are wide open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey.

We are a life-giving, multicultural church and our goal is to infuse life and God's love into people and families through engaging, powerful worship services that offer biblical truth in relevant and practical ways. Together, we're striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible, where there's relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. We like to be the kind of contagious Christianity that can influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time. We are a growing congregation who is only desire to fulfill our God given purpose. We invite you to visit one of our Sunday services.

God's and our duty to transform ourselves

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such there is no law.”      These nine qualities describe the characteristics of a fruitful Christian… So how can we have these qualities? Obviously, God didn’t just inject me with energy for a day and then suddenly these qualities sprouted in me in a minute. On the contrary, He uses His process, His means to grow in us… The apostle Paul teaches us about the process of spiritual transformation and growth.

Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved ones, as you always obey, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; not only when I am present, but all the more when I am absent. For it is God who works in you both to will and to act for his good pleasure.

It may seem contradictory, but the Bible teaches us that “by grace we are saved through faith.” Not by hard work.”

2002 Edition --- Work out your own salvation.
ESV 2001 --- Work out your own salvation.
NLT 2004 --- Work hard to show the results of your salvation.

So the scripture here means “training” or “spiritual exercise.”

In exercise, we develop, build muscle, make our body strong. ... Training means growing, developing, making the most of what we have been given. ... This is what Paul is talking about here: developing our spiritual life.

God is involved in our spiritual growth, and we are also involved. He gives the power, but we have to turn on the switch. Work out our salvation, because God is the one working in us.

The tools God uses

1. His Word - He teaches us how to live through His Word.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be competent and equipped for every good work.)

Has the Bible Changed Our Lives?... God's Word has changed the lives of countless people around the world.
If we really want to change our lives, we must read the Bible. We must read, study, meditate, and apply it.
I have heard many people complain to me that their faith is not strong, that I am not ready, that I am not good enough, that my life is not changing...etc.

I would ask, "Do you read the Bible regularly?"... "No."... "Do you study the Bible?"... "I don't."... "Do you memorize Scriptures?"... "No, I don't have time." .......... "Oh! Then how can your faith grow?"

2. God Uses His Spirit - When we commit ourselves to Christ, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives to strengthen and guide us.

(Romans 8:9-11 If the Spirit of God dwells in you, you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not of Him. And if Christ is in you, though your body is dead because of sins, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised up Jesus Christ from the dead will quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit who dwells in you.) God’s
Holy Spirit gives us new strength, vigor, desire, and power to do what is right. When the Holy Spirit works in us, we become more and more like Him.

God’s first purpose in our life is to make us more like Jesus Christ… God’s Spirit uses His word to make His children more like His Son. So what was Jesus like? His earthly life contained nine fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

3. God uses circumstances – Another great way to transform us is to read the Bible to find out how we should live our lives, and then rely on His Spirit who lives in us to help us do so. Unfortunately, most of us are stubborn. And they don't want to change easily... God has to use the third tool to help, which is the situation... This situation means problems and pressure, heartache, difficulties and stress because these things tend to stimulate our interest well.

Romans 8:28-29 Amplified Version – For those who love God, those whom God calls according to His plan, everything that happens will fit into a prepared pattern for good, because God chose them to remain in the likeness of His Son in the family.

Nothing can come into the life of a believer unless our heavenly Father allows it… Everything must be scrutinized by the Father first… Sometimes we often find fault with ourselves, our own wrong decisions, wrong thoughts, or sins. Or sometimes our troubles may be caused by others. Or sometimes evil spirits find fault with us like they did with Job… But no matter what the situation is, whether good or bad, God will use that situation in our lives. God will work it out according to His plan so that we will all be like Jesus Christ.

Therefore, every situation that happens in our life, we can learn from it, if we just have the right attitude.

Proverbs 20:30 – A wound that opens cleanses the evil, and a blow that opens the deepest part cleanses it.

Perhaps we have already experienced this. Perhaps God uses painful experiences to make us change what we are doing. In other words, if nothing extreme happens, we will not change… “There is no coffin.” “No tears were shed.”

God speaks to us through the Bible and inspires us by the Holy Spirit. But if we continue to ignore Him, He will use circumstances until we obey Him.

God can use any situation in life to help us grow. This is His job. What about ours? What must we do?

Choices that bring about change

1. We must choose our thoughts – Spiritual growth does not happen automatically. Change is a choice. If we just sit and do nothing… we will not grow.

Proverbs 4:23 – Keep your heart with all vigilance, for out of it spring the issues of life.
This means that if we want to change our lives, we must change our thoughts. Change always begins with new thoughts.

How do we become a Christian? … By repentance… Repentance, in Greek, is metanoia, which means changing our mind, changing our perspective… When I became a Christian, I changed my perspective on many things.

The Bible teaches us that “our thoughts – (determine) – our feelings – (determine) – our actions.” … So if we want to change our actions, we need to go back to the root and change our thoughts… Sometimes we express dissatisfaction (because) we feel dissatisfaction (because) we think about things that create resentment, anger, and anxiety…

The truth is, trying to force ourselves to change by simply willpower doesn’t really work in the long run. But we can change our lives by changing our thoughts. Don’t focus on our actions, don’t focus on our feelings… People often say, “I would be a more loving person,” or “I would be happier.” If I have killed it” ...Forcing your feelings will not work. Focus on changing your thoughts ...

John 8:32 - Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

When our lives are based on truth, with right thoughts and right beliefs from the Bible, we will be free and will find that old habits, old feelings, or old actions gradually fall away ... God gave us the Word, we must read and meditate on it always.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly ... We must always spend time with the Bible, set aside time to read, meditate, and apply the lessons from the Word to our lives.

2. Rely on the Holy Spirit - All true Christians have God's Spirit in their lives ... but not all live in power.

John 15:5 - I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, the same bears much fruit. For apart from Me, you can do nothing ... The branch is entirely dependent on the main vine; it cannot bear fruit by itself. The bearing of fruit is an internal matter ... The fruit that occurs in the Christian life It is the fruit of the Holy Spirit, so it must come from within...so how do we know we are in Christ...how do we know we are relying on the Holy Spirit...it's

easy...look at our prayer life...prayers show us whether we are relying on God or not.

When we pray about something, we rely on God for it... Whatever we don't pray about, we are trying to do it ourselves... Relying on the Spirit means praying all the time about decisions, needs, interests, schedules, life problems, business... everything... When we pray, we will begin to see the fruits of the Spirit in our lives.

3. Responding appropriately to situations - We cannot control every situation in our lives. We do not know what will happen tomorrow, but we can control how we respond to it... We can control whether a situation will hurt us or help us grow.

Paul mentioned this:  Romans 5:3-4 - Moreover, we rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces endurance, and endurance shows us who God uses. And when we see it, we have hope.   God also uses situations in life when others mean harm to us. This is the lesson learned from the life of Joseph... Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery. He was thrown into prison... Finally, he said to his brothers:

Genesis 50:20 "You intended harm against me, but God intended it for good, as this has happened, to save many lives." ... Sometimes our lives are like this. Let's trust in God. If we let God lead us, God can turn a painful situation into a good thing. He will produce mature character traits in us. This is the fruit of the Spirit.

When God created man, God created him in His image. This was God’s original plan, and this plan has not changed… God wants us to be like Him… not God… but people with God’s character traits.

“God produces the fruit of the Spirit in us by allowing us to encounter situations and people who do not have the fruit of the Spirit.”

For example, how does God produce love in our lives? It is easy to love lovable people, but in teaching us about God’s true love, God will lead us to be around people who are not lovable. We learn about God’s love by giving love to moody people or annoying neighbors… God teaches us to practice loving “unlovable people.”

4. It takes time – It takes time for fruit to ripen. It is impossible for it to ripen in 1 minute. Similarly, it takes time for spiritual fruit to ripen. Time is of the essence… If we try to ripen or rush the fruit, it will not taste good. And God also takes time to wait for the spiritual fruit in your life to ripen.

We can start telling God right now that we want to be fruitful Christians. We want to cooperate with His plan. Commit yourself to reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on God's Word. Ask God to use His Word to change your life. Surrender to the Holy Spirit to have absolute power in your life. Don't hold anything back. Pray and talk to God about everything. Let's accept God's plan to change our lives. God wants to produce spiritual fruit in our lives. Let's cooperate and surrender to Him.

Can Christians not go to church?

Can Christians not go to church?

"The point is very clear and distinct. This report emphasizes the importance of "building each other up", which is important. There is a more fundamental point, which is "being a part of each other", which can be compared to attending the Zionist's ceremony in our family. In Eastern society, "being a part of the community" is considered a person's identity."

Current theological issues:
“Can Christians not go to church?”
General understanding of going to church
Many Christians understand that because we are Christians, we must go to church. Some people have been going to church since they were children until it became a habit that they must do every Sunday. However, for some people, they look forward to Sunday, which is a day that is very meaningful to them. During the COVID-19 situation, the way of life of going to church has changed because many churches have changed the format of worship online. Until now, when the situation has eased, the church has opened for normal worship. However, it was found that some Christians found new options for worshipping God and considered not going to church normal and felt more freedom on Sunday by choosing to stay home and worship online along with doing other activities. They think that going to church in the future is no longer necessary. This has been a long-standing issue (not related to COVID) in the West, such as America, England, etc. Therefore, it has become a problem that we have to rethink and understand what church or church is exactly, how important it is, and why do we have to go to church?

Christian concepts
1. Must go to worship at church because church is a place where we must gather to worship God there.
2. You don't have to go because you can worship God anywhere.
3. Worshiping online feels like worshiping God personally more than going to church, not really getting anything.
4. Whether you go or not, it's the same, you don't get anything, but it's better than not going, at least you get to see your friends and relatives.
5. Going to worship at church is something that must be done because God has us gather to worship God and have unity with our brothers and sisters.
This is very clear and distinct.

From the many different answers, most Christians do not
really understand what it means to worship at church. They use their own rules to decide whether to go to church instead of looking at the Bible or finding the truth about whether or not we should really go to church.
When this issue arises, the correct answer must be found so that it can be explained and answered to members, which is:

What is the Church?
The Church in the Old Testament.
The Hebrew qahal (English: qahal) in foreign languages must be italicized (to indirectly inform the reader). (Deut. 9:10, 1 Kings 12:3) means to call the people together. And the word edah (Num. 14:1) means the people, especially the people gathered in front of the tent of meeting, indicating that the assembly of the children of Israel was centered around God's law, which was specially called out and God called the people of Israel His people. God did not originally take an existing nation to be His people, but He truly created His people for Himself. God chose Abraham and through Abraham the people of Israel were formed, so that this people would be the way through which God would bless the nations (Gen. 12:1-3, Ex. 6:7, 19:5-6, John 8:37). God has shown them in great things what a special people they are since

God had Moses lead the nation of Israel out of Egypt, across the Red Sea, to the Promised Land of Canaan. God wanted Israel to see that this nation was truly a special nation, chosen by God. However, that did not mean that all born as Israelites were truly God's people. The only true people of God were those who were obedient, trusting, and faithful to Him. Therefore, they were the true Israel in God's eyes. And from this small minority of believers, God designated one person to be the Savior of mankind, the only way to bring salvation to the nations: Jesus Christ.

The Church in the New Testament
The Greek word ekklesia (Matt. 16:8, 18:17) means a gathering of people. Paul uses this word a lot, referring to believers in a specific city, such as the church of God in Corinth, the churches of Galatia, the church of the Thessalonians, the seven churches (1 Cor. 1:2, 2 Cor. 1:1, Gal. 1:2, 1 Thess. 1:1, Rev. 1-3). In Acts, ekklesia also refers to all Christians living and meeting together in a city. Paul also describes the church as the people of God, the body of Christ, and the temple of the Spirit. It’s clear that the whole metaphor of the church is “public” and not “private.” We are part of something greater than ourselves, holy, and the church is made up of God’s people. The believers belong to Him and He belongs to them.

“I will dwell in them, and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16
This is truly a privilege that God has given us to share in Him, where every believer is like the body of Jesus Christ, each one of whom is a part of Christ. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27 emphasizes the relationship the church has with Christ as a group of believers who share a sense of “one another,” or Solidality. Mutual participation is a very important social dimension for every Christian.

In 1 Corinthians 12:12-26, we are told of our participation “with one another” in the Body of One, one body of members connected and harmonized into one, with Christ as the head and one Spirit, each with different gifts to edify the other. Furthermore, the community of believers living together is the image of God. How can we be members of one body if we do not know each other?

In 2 Peter 1:3-4, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue. By these he has given us his exceedingly great and precious promises, so that by these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through evil desire.

The fact that believers live together is a picture that shows the community of unbelievers the community of God and the different lives that the believers have as a temple of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit built up the church on the day of Pentecost and brought more people into the church continuously. The Holy Spirit dwells in the church, which is the life of believers. It will be revealed by the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) by showing the light shining into the community, which is an indication of the work of the Holy Spirit that shows the true church. A
couple of more strong ideas are the “kingdom” in the Old Testament and the word “one another” which appears 100 times in the NT.

Summary of the issues raised from the perspective of members who do not want to come to church.
The church is the community of God where each person has his own role to build each other up.

So, the church is a communion center, not a choice of whether or not to go to church. We must go to church. The Bible does not recognize solo Christians because spiritual growth begins with having relationships in the church. We must commit ourselves to the church. Jesus emphasizes unity, communion, and one another. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 and in Ephesians, what Jesus emphasizes is that it is important for us to obey. Because if we do not have communion in the church with our brothers and sisters, we will not have one another, we will not have emotions in suffering and joy. If the teaching is to love one another, then we do not go to church. Where will we love one another?

If the Bible says to forgive one another, if we don't go to church, where can we forgive? If we are alone and do not get involved with anyone, we will not be able to build anyone up and we will not be built up by anyone. It is true that we can worship at home, but it is not God's will or purpose for us to do so. God's will be for us to worship God together, pray, and have fellowship together. The church certainly helps our spirit grow. If we say that we believe in God, we must also obey His word.
1 Pet 2:5 And you yourselves, as living stones, be built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Finally, those who say they want or don't want to go to church are not doing it according to God's true will, but rather their own feelings that follow the flesh, whether they want to or don't want to. But the truth is, we must do it because God set the Sabbath day for us to go to church together with our brothers and sisters to worship God, to create unity, to be of one mind and heart, and to build each other up.

Sharing our gifts, displaying the fruit of the Spirit to one another, so that the world can see the different lives and communities of believers who honor God by coming to worship at church every Sunday.
